RNC Day Three: “We Like Mike”

Most already know that Cruz received boos, and Hillary “Lock her up!” chants resounded throughout the Quicken Loans Arena, but contrast that with the cheers of “I like Mike” by the Delegates representing the people at the RNC. This is just the start of the work ahead for Americans; no one said a Republican Renaissance would be easy.

CLEVELAND – Instead of dwelling on what wasn’t said, I prefer to focus on what was spoken. The Pennslylvania Delegation began its third day at the convention with a breakfast of testimonies from elected Republican officials emphasizing the historical legacy that is incumbent upon us.

Congressman Keith Rothfus (PA-12th District) stated that the notion of self-rule, self-government and individual rights is from the hand of God. When Congressman Rothfus said that “A Better Way” legislation that the U.S. House of Representatives has passed is the beginning of accountability for regulation, the room erupted in validated applause.

The theme of this election year has consistently been about the people regaining control of an unaccountable government, and it is a movement at the most local level possible. Electing Donald Trump is essential to ensuring politicians and bureaucrats take ownership of approved legislation like A Better Way. Congressman Rothfus reminded our delegation that the entire federal government is at stake.

Congressman “GT” Thompson (PA-5th District) noted that the 2016 elections impact our personal lives. He has a son who was injured serving in Iraq, who continues to serve in our military, and that his son deserves a responsible Commander-in-Chief.

Congressman GT spent four years in Congress with Governor Mike Pence, they were Bible study partners in Washington, DC. Congressman GT declared enthusiastically, “When Mike Pence says he’s ‘a Christian, Conservative and Republican, in that order,’ he means it!…A Trump-Pence ticket in Pennsylvania is a winning ticket!”

Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11th District), elected in 2010, recognized that the people in his Congressional District are saying, “‘Washington isn’t listening’…the government has become so distant from the people.” He went on to say a survey was released highlighting that only twenty-five percent of the people believe the country is going in the right direction. Congressman Barletta retorted, “Well I found them, they were all in Washington, DC!”

Congressman Tom Marino (PA-10th District) spoke at lunch and with Congressman Barletta, they represented the first two Congressmen to endorse Donald Trump. People told Congressman Marino, ‘your political career is over,’ and now they are asking him how they can get a Trump Administration appointment.  Some things never change.

When the President takes an oath to faithfully execute the laws of this country, it implies he will shun political corruption.

While there were excellent speakers on the third evening of the convention,  Laura Ingraham, Eric Trump and Newt Gingrich, State Senator Ralph Alvarado of Kentucky even gave some remarks in Spanish, showing that the other party doesn’t have a lock on the Hispanic vote. Reaching out to them, he implored, “My brothers and sisters, our families ran away from countries full of corruption and liar politicians. Please, don’t allow that misery to also happen in this country. We live in an island of liberty and opportunity. Please vote to protect that. Vote with me, vote Republican, and vote for Donald Trump!” Those who had understood what he said gave a decisive round of applause.
